Scenic Drives – Placerita Canyon Road

Placerita Canyon Road

This road runs from Newhall at 13th Street / San Fernando Road to Sand Canyon Road. There is a gate along the segment between San Fernando Road and Sierra Highway, but the rest of the roadway is fully open to the public. Beyond Sierra Highway, the canyon deepens providing beautiful views of the western San Gabriel Mountains. One of the first major gold discoveries occurred along here at the Oak of the Golden Dream in 1842, located quite close to where Placerita Canyon Road crosses the creek the first time, east of Disney Ranch. The road also provides a scenic alternative to the 14 freeway during peak traffic times to Canyon Country and beyond.
