Manzanar National Historic Site

6_manzanar-1

Built as a Japanese internment camp in 1942, this site remains as a sad reminder of what happened in the US during World War II. In the late 2000’s, US 395 was upgraded to an expressway here, bypassing the section of highway in front of Manzanar, leaving a short section of old alignment. Prior to the internment camp, it was mostly a ranching and farming area.
