Mettler – Jct. SR-166

Northbound in Mettler.

Little exists, or has ever existed, in Mettler. Today, it serves as a stop along the highway for food and fuel. It did get a bit of “glory” as a site used in the movie “Thelma and Louise”.  Prior to 1964, Mettler served as the southern end of State 33 before US 399 was decommissioned. In 1964, State 166 was extended east to here and 33 was moved onto the Maricopa Highway to Ventura.  South of Mettler, another small service stop existed called Wheeler Ridge. It was located near the present junction of I-5 and State 99.
