Ridge Route Alternate Presentation

On Tuesday, April 6 at 6pm, I will be giving a presentation via Zoom on the Ridge Route Alternate section of US 99 during the regular monthly meeting of the Historic Highway 99 Association of California. It will cover the history of the roadway from its original construction through to its replacement by I-5 from Castaic to Tejon Pass. The presentation will include some rarer photos of the route and have time at the end for questions. Come join us and learn a bit about the history of US 99 in Southern California!

Highway 99 Update

Big news for the Historic Highway 99 Association of California! They are getting ready to complete their first project, replacing the old and faded signs in Calexico at the south end of US 99. It is a small project but one worth the effort and a great step forward.

Historic Highway 99 Fundraiser

The Historic Highway 99 Association of California is holding its first fundraiser. This will be for the purchase of 10 24×36 Historic Route 99 signs to be placed in Banning and Beaumont in the future. If you’re interested in learning more and contributing, check out their site:

Historic Highway 99 Association

The Historic Highway 99 Association of California is a California 501(c)3 Non-Profit Public Benefit Corporation, as officially recognized and certified by the State of California.

The main goal of the association is to help educate the public on the historical importance of former US Highway 99 in California. Our additional goals are as follows:

  • To help promote travel, tourism, and economic development along the historic roadway through the various towns along the route
  • To work with various agencies to protect and preserve any historic structures such as bridges, buildings, and other cultural resources along all alignments of former US 99
  • To help support signage efforts along the route, such as Business Route and/or Historic Route signs directing travelers to the old road.
  • To develop a cohesive statewide plan for the preservation, interpretation, and promotion of former US 99 in California.
  • To develop and support various meets along the roadway, such as car shows, swap meets, and historical tours.
  • To raise funds to support all these goals.
