Ridge Route – Liebre Summit and Granite Gate
Liebre Summit was the highest point on the Ridge Route at about 4240′, even higher than Tejon Pass. The extra elevation, combined with the grades, was one of the many reasons this alignment was completely bypassed instead of being upgraded.
South of Liebre Summit, a feature known as Granite Gate appears. It was just a small section of the mountain that was left behind when the roadway was first cut through here.
