Freeman Junction – SR-178 West
At Freeman Junction, US 6 met the road through Walker Pass, SR-178. That route joins with US 6 (current State 14) for a few miles to the north. The junction has changed quite a bit since the days of US 6. At the time, there were still some buildings from the small “town” of Freeman Junction. Today, only a few foundations and walls remain. The current (2020) version of the intersection was constructed in 1964.
To the south, US 6 was realigned in 1947 across Freeman Gulch. The original alignment, constructed in 1930, is still somewhat traversable to the west of the current alignment. Original asphalt and some striping is visible as well. The 1947 bridge over Freeman Gulch retained its original wooden railing until the mid-1990’s.
