The last alignment of US 99 follows current I-5. Lebec Road, which was the original alignment of the Ridge Route, was constructed in 1915. In 1936, it was bypassed by a three-lane alignment which roughly follows present-day I-5. In 1951, it was upgraded to a four-lane expressway. In 1966, the expressway was partially incorporated into I-5, with the 1951 concrete still in use in sections.
