Boron is a small town whose primary industry is one of the largest borax mines in the world. The name of the town comes from the element contained within borax, the element Boron. Near the center of town, there is a good museum on the history of the mining in the region as well as samples of the minerals from the local mine. This town was bypassed by the present freeway in 1971.
